YOUTH EDUCATION

One of the main goals of Nebraska Trout Unlimited is to promote the sport of fly fishing and involve the youth of our state in outdoor activities and appreciation of our fishery resources.  Toward this goal, a number of our members have become Certified Aquatic Education Instructors with the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission (NGPC).  These members volunteer their time and talent to teach our youth how to fly cast and numerous other activities associated with fly fishing, including knot tying, fly tying, entomology, catch & release techniques, as well as many other aspects of our sport and the aquatic resources we all enjoy.

Our education efforts have continued to grow. Over the past seven years (2009-2015) our members have helped teach fly fishing skills to several thousand young people and adults in our area at numerous events.  Many of these were in cooperation with the Fisheries Division of the NGPC throughout the state.  In pursuit of our education objective, TU710 volunteers gave hundreds of  man hours and traveled thousands of miles to such locations as Aksarben Aquarium, Kearney State Park, Wehrspann Lake, Platte River State Park, Ft. Kearney State Park, Ponca State Park, Scottsbluff, Benson Park Lagoon, Halleck Park Lake, and Westside Church in West Omaha.
