Spring Outing, April 1-5, 2006, Heber Springs,
Arkansas, Little Red River
April 1st through 5th, eight
members of the Nebraska TU Chapter#710, took a trip to Heber Springs,
Arkansas to fish for Browns and Rainbows in the Little Red River. We fished
three days on the Little Red, the site of the largest Brown Trout ever
landed in the USA, 40 lbs. 4 oz. While we didn’t break any National size
records we set a number of personal bests, both in numbers of trout landed
and in size. Dr. Schlichtemeier caught the largest Brown of the trip, a 26”
monster. A personal best was logged by Gene Kathol who caught a 23 ˝” and a
22” Brown in about as many minutes. Doug Frailey also caught the largest
Brown Trout of his fishing career. Everyone agreed the fishing was
phenomenal. Guide Jamie Rouse (an Orvis Certified Guide) and several of his
guide friends gave us the time of our lives. Our accommodations at Jamie’s
“cabin” and at Lobo Landing proved first rate and all agreed this was a trip
to repeat. The eight TU 710 members making the trip were: Ben Buskevicius,
Bill Buskevicius, Doug Frailey, Gene Kathol, Dennis Reed, Josh Rownd, Dr.
Bill Schlichtemeier, and Bob Wood. A few pics of the fun appear below.
